Sethness Greenleaf celebrates 130 years in the Flavor Business

CHICAGO, April 5, 2010 – James Garfield was elected President, half the U.S. population were farmers and France began construction of the Panama Canal. The year was 1880 and Norwegian immigrant, Charles O. Sethness established a syrup and water flavor factory in Chicago to serve the burgeoning beverage industry. Business grew swiftly and through the decades, the company led many technological changes and expanded globally.

“One of our best-known flavor innovations is Green River, which was launched during the Prohibition era,” said Patrick Kearney, President of Sethness Greenleaf. “For many years, Green River was second only to Coca Cola in sales. To this day, we continue to produce the Green River flavor.”
