Did you know that S-G invented the flavor for Green River soda?

Norwegian émigré Charles Olin Sethness established a syrup and water flavor factory in Chicago in 1880 that was destined to grow into a global flavor house with 40,000-plus formulas to its credit. One of those syrups – a mixture of sugar, citric acid and natural lime oils – formed the basis for Green River, the highly popular Prohibition-era carbonated soft drink. And for decades after the repeal of Prohibition, the soda fountain syrup version of Green River maintained a loyal following, second only to Coca Cola in terms of popularity.

In the years since, we have expanded our flavor innovation beyond the beverage industry to include bakery, confectionery and dairy product applications. At the same time we have expanded our reach into the global market place. Sethness-Greenleaf’s extensive market presence throughout North America and aggressive expansion efforts in Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia have contributed greatly to the commercial success of our many customer companies.
